Fundamentals
Our fundamentals class is the most important class we offer. It is the foundation of your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey. With a strong focus on self-defense, the class incorporates the same jiu-jitsu first taught at the original Gracie academy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil during the 1960’s. The class is designed to prepare students for both self-defense, and sport jiu-jitsu while at the same time improving cardiovascular endurance, balance, and coordination. This class focuses on positional drilling instead of full-contact sparring. Once a new student has attended 60 Fundamental classes, they can move on to the Intermediate program.
Intermediate
The Intermediate class builds on the skills, techniques and concepts from the Fundamentals program. Students will dive deeper into attacks, guards and escapes. Over time you will learn what techniques work best for your body and athleticism. You will begin to develop your own style of jiu-jitsu, or what we call “your game”. This class will also introduce you to live sparring or “rolling”. A typical class would include a warm-up, three or four techniques and then live sparring. All sparring is overseen by an experienced instructor to help ensure the safety of all students.
Advanced
In this class, you can expect to constantly challenge your current level and understanding of Jiu-Jitsu. You’ll learn techniques and concepts that reflect today’s evolving Jiu-Jitsu game and train alongside the most experienced and active members of the team.
Womxn
Alliance Yellowknife understands that some students may prefer a more focused space when first learning about jiu-jitsu. This is why we offer a Fundamentals class that is available to all women, as well as those who are non-binary but feel comfortable in a space curated for women. This class is a great gateway into jiu-jitsu for people who have never tried a martial art before; and is taught by two women in an inclusive, fun, and safe atmosphere. We are very proud of this class and all the success it has had.
No-Gi
Our no-gi class includes a brand new curriculum from Alliance. In this class students learn to grapple without the use of the kimono. This class focuses on submission wrestling and is also popular among students interested in mixed-martial-arts.
All-Level Gi (Morning Class)
Our morning class is an all-level Gi class for students who are unavailable to train in the evenings or prefer to get in a morning workout. The instructor of this class will cater the techniques to the experience leavel of the students in attendacne.
